Fearrington House as it stands today was the brainchild of R.B. The couple had spent some time in Europe and admired the tight-knit communities of small European villages, and they wanted to emulate that in a village in the US. Raised in a family of hoteliers, Theresa learned the intricacies of managing luxury hotels in both Europe and the Caribbean from a very early age. After earning a degree in Hospitality Management from the University of Central Florida, Theresa spent several years at properties in the US and Europe including the prestigious Rafael Hotel in Munich.

While the title alone is remarkable, the restaurant very much lives up to its reputation. The inn boasts 32 bright and airy rooms with upscale furnishings, original artwork, and fresh flowers. Since then, the Fearrington brand has expanded to the Fearrington Village, a country-style community center with a spa and gardens.
You can buy alcohol from the bar to take back to your room, or wine and beer from the Belted goat. The King Bed was the luxurious kind you don’t want to get out of, and the bathroom was modern, large and spacious. From the attentive service that began at check in, to the comfortable and luxurious suites, to that mouth-watering chocolate souffle dessert (keep reading), everything was of the highest standard. The only thing we would have liked was our own porch area. We would have loved to have sat on it with an after-dinner drink listening to the nighttime sounds. We did that instead sitting on the communal deck overlooking the gardens, which was lovely. But having our own private space would have been the ultimate – some Grand Suites do have a private porch feature.

And Jenny Fitch came across the Fearrington property and fell in love with the charming European-style land. They refurbished the house to serve as the chic Fearrington House Restaurant and were welcomed with wild success. Fearrington is a small community untouched by bustling city life. Most guests are drawn here for the peace and quiet that the resort promises them.
Afternoon drink and live music at the Roost Garden
The Fearrington family homestead was converted to a restaurant in the eighties in order for the property to be accepted as a Relais & Chateaux property. The beer garden has shady areas under the oak trees to sit. You could even throw in a bottle of wine – but note, you can’t take glass into the pool area, so you may need a different location for your picnic. Relais and Chateaux is an association of 580 unique, independently owned hotels and restaurants throughout the world. Included properties are dedicated to preserving local heritage and the environment, outstanding hospitality, and culinary excellence.
In addition to the long list of drinks, there are some food options for guests to snack on. While traveling across Europe, the Fitches encountered many Relais & Châteaux institutions. French-owned and operated, Relais & Châteaux is a worldwide association of independent luxury inns and restaurants. In the 1980s, the Fitches sought Relais & Châteaux affiliation for the Fearrington House Restaurant. You do not have to be staying at the Fearrington Inn to eat here. We could tell there were many local regulars eating in the bar and restaurant.
